Student is able to perform the resident care procedure with no critical errors and no more than two non-critical errors to meet expectations. All steps must be performed in order per the manual.

2. Balance scale.

3. Depending on scale used, assist resident to stand on platform or sit in chair with feet on footrest or transport wheelchair onto scale and lock brakes.

4. With standing scale, lower weight to 50-lb mark that causes arm to drop; move it back to previous mark. Move upper weight to pound mark that balances pointer in middle of square. Add lower and upper marks. If digital scale, press weigh and wait until numbers are constant. When using a wheelchair scale, weigh wheelchair first. Then weigh wheelchair with resident. Subtract weight of wheelchair from total weight, if applicable.
